Having completed my Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Education–Primary in 2011, via the
University of Newcastle, and in 2012 Approval to teach K-6 from NSW DET, I am qualified to teach
Kindergarten through to Year 6. Demonstrating my commitment to continued professional
growth, I am currently studying for a diploma in early childhood education, facilitated by Open
Colleagues.
Conscious that the collection of student data works best when it is varied, continuous and
cumulative, I provide a reflective method to the dynamics of a classroom and am attentive to
students’ prior knowledge. Coal Point Public School’s goal to implement the You Can Do It! (YCDI)
program to empower students to come lifelong learners and future leaders, I am passionate to be
a part of promoting its mission to support the social, emotional, and academic outcomes of all
young people.
As a classroom teacher, I have successfully taught through the implementation of simultaneous
teaching plans tailored to the needs of students at various learning stages. Successfully, I
completed this through:
Utilising interactive whiteboard activities and iPad lessons
Talking partner activities
Individualised lessons
The outcome of my chosen methods of teaching has demonstrated marked improvements in
student learning outcomes relating to appropriate continuum clusters.
A quality teacher, my approval to teach K-6 is supported by:
Targeting Early Numeracy (TEN) activities and games within my lesson programming in
order to provide students with opportunities for grouping and progression through the
appropriate clusters. The games have resulted in multiple learning opportunities in Early
Learning Plans and ability grouping. Students’ progress through the appropriate clusters at
their own pace, thus gaining valuable numeracy skills at a level that they can understand
Experience as a classroom teacher within diverse school environments, as demonstrated in
my current teaching position at Coal Point Public School that features a supportive
environment for all students. To achieve this, I incorporate the Kagan methodology, which
has students grouped in mixed ability during activities such as Think-Pair-Share
Possessing four years of casual K-6 teaching positions in Newcastle, Central Coast and Lake
Macquarie, I have demonstrated skills to deliver in K-6 education
Using positive reinforcement strategies that increase positive behaviour, self-esteem,
motivation, as well as gratitude
Professional development in the Jolly Phonics program, I am in progress of obtaining my
proficient accreditation
Within my teaching practice, I consistently engage students and provide diversity of teaching and
learning methods to encourage participation. My utilisation of these programs have resulted in
consistent positive student learning outcomes and my students have developed enhanced
knowledge of literacy and mathematical outcomes.
By demonstrating my dedication as an educator, whose unwavering commitment to education,
excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, I have attained the necessary skills, experience
and qualifications to meet the requirements of Coal Point Public School K-6 curriculum. I will work
collaboratively with other staff members and will continue to demonstrate my commitment to
ongoing professional learning to enhance my teaching practice.
