Organisation: TAFE Queensland
Job Title: Schools Liaison Officer

Location: Gold Coast
Demonstrated written and oral communication abilities and interpersonal and team work skills, including the
ability to liaise with all levels across an organisation to achieve effective stakeholder management
As the principal educator at Davana Institute of Nail Technology, it was imperative for me to have well-developed
interpersonal and written communications skills. I successfully demonstrated my ability to liaise, negotiate, and
resolve conflict, issues and complaints that occurred within the college. Examples of this was my ability to mentor
educators and students, plan and deliver training programs and lesson plans, maintain and complete all organisational
material and documentation ensuring all policies and procedures were up to date, relevant and compliant, and initiate
and implement the conflict resolution method.
I have identified opportunities to work collaboratively with team members and stakeholders to create an appropriate
action plan, worked autonomously and as part of a team, sought out opportunities to network and liaise with all
stakeholders specifically, appropriate internal and external support services, and effectively negotiated with internal
and external clients.
Demonstrated understanding of the vocational education and training sector including knowledge of secondary
schools and tertiary education system and the pathways students can take to enter tertiary education
With over seven years of experience not only as an educator but also owning and managing an RTO, I was required to
possess an outstanding understanding of the frameworks and level of competencies required under the VET Quality
Framework. Working with disengaged and at-risk youths, I assisted them in recognising their potential and provided
the required support to allow them to pursue their academic goals. This encompassed assisting them in obtaining
their secondary education to enable progression into VET education by way of a work or school-based traineeship, or
by assisting them in applying for an academic TAFE course.
My role with Lifestyle Solutions sees me working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds. I work with them to
develop an individualised case plan. An example of this is working with an Indigenous youth who had a history of
substance abuse and mental health issues; this teen disengaged themselves from school. Using techniques to identify
educational and employment barriers, I worked with this teen to obtain a traineeship involving on-the-job training and
one day at week at TAFE. To provide this opportunity, I liaised and negotiated with the relevant stakeholders through
phone discussions, meetings, and emails in order to gain the appropriate approvals. My work in this case resulted in
approval being provided for the training and the youth being able to undertake the traineeship.
Demonstrated ability to use business management tools to assist in the timely preparation, documentation and
reporting on the program’s business position
Throughout my employment, I have been required to use business management tools to prepare and report on
business position. For example, I have used MYOB and spreadsheet tools to generate financial statements and report
on areas of accounting including, cashflow analysis, salary structures, commissions, key performance indicators (KPIs),
profit and loss (P&L), salaries, tax reporting, revenue reporting and monitoring.
Working in the RTO I used a specifically designed in-house system to create spreadsheets, reports, schedules, rosters,
financial overviews, cashflows and P&Ls to enable me to report on the business’s position. In my current role, I
prepare progress reports, incident reports, weekly, monthly and individual reports and cashflow analyses, as well as
maintain a petty cash system, case management, and reporting to the Department of Child Safety.
Demonstrated ability to use computerised systems including database, word processing and spread sheeting and
the ability to quickly acquire knowledge and skills in new hardware/software applications
To maintain compliance as an RTO with the DET and perform industry reporting, I have utilised various in-house
databases. This has also encompassed the Microsoft Office suite of programs, including, Word, Excel and Outlook, and
TimeTarget for the creation of rostering and scheduling, and accessing local intranet services.
When I commenced with Lifestyle Solutions, I was required to quickly learn their computerised systems. To achieve
this I studied and researched the system, asked questions, worked with my co-workers and supervisors, and followed
procedure manuals. Following these methods allowed me to quickly and effectively learn the required systems.
Displays the initiative, attitude and ability to thrive within a dynamic, challenging and changing environment
Lifestyle Solutions is a youth residential setting and as such, I have experienced many challenging and confronting
situations. Recognising and understanding that young people who have experienced trauma have varying and
complex needs that may reflect anger, distrust, and challenging behaviours, I am regularly required to think on my
feet and show initiative when dealing with complex situations.
Within my role as educator and mentor my duties and responsibilities included, taking the initiative to make decisions
and changes according to the situation, initiating and planning activities, developing creative solutions, acknowledging
individual abilities, and taking the initiative to implement appropriate flexible learning modes.
