Job Title: Graduate Program Engineers
Word Limit: 1385 characters
Location: Tasmania
Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline, including engineering, finance, economics or
business;
I have successfully obtained qualifications in the field of Mechanical/Automobile Engineering as
per the following
o 2012 – Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, Anna University Chennai, India
o 2008 – Foundation in Travel and Tourism Diploma, IATA/UFTAA, Montreal, Canada
o 2006 – Diploma in Automobile Engineering, State Board of Technical Education,
Government of Kerala, India
o 2003 – Bachelor of Science in Physics, University of Calicut, India
My desire to study this particular field as been driven by my passion and interest in obtaining a
position that is related to this. My qualifications were obtained in India and Canada with my aim is
to obtain further experience and qualifications that align with Australian standards. I am
technically minded and seeking an opportunity where I can be mentored and coached to increase
my knowledge and skills specifically in a Graduate role.
2. Demonstrated capability to fulfil the people, scheduling and technical accountabilities of
the role;
Whilst working within my position of Automobile Engineer at Imperial Trading & Contracting
Company I gained experience in the Automobile Industry and work environment. I had exposure
to the management of a crew or fleet of vehicles, the technical aspects and operations of the
Transport Department and scheduling.
In particular, I was responsible for supporting the technical operations of the Transport
Department and regularly reported to the Transport Manager on issues such as maintenance
defects, ordering parts, errors on clerical entries, breakdowns and job allocations.
Part of my responsibilities included scheduling and allocating jobs to staff which required me to
review resources, the current jobs for completion and prioritising workloads to ensure jobs
allocated were processed in a timely manner.
Every evening I would liaison and discuss with the other engineers what the jobs and requirements
were for the next day. We would then coordinate the jobs per priority and allocate work as per
the resources available into the time slots. I would then liaison with the Project Manager and
inform them of what work needed to be completed in priority order.
3. Strong communication skills with the ability to listen, understand and modify positions to
achieve mutually acceptable outcomes;
Over the course of my career I have had the opportunity to communicate and liaison with a varied
array of people, including levels of management, customers and team members.
In the course of my normal daily duties I communicated face-to-face, phone and via email to
establish clear and concise communication techniques.
In my position of Automobile Engineer at Imperial Trading & Contracting Company I advised
management on the periodic maintenance and troubleshooting for Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Volvo
and Nissan. This was a detailed process which included reviewing the troubleshooting data
captured, following procedures, recording specific information and reporting to the Supervisor and
Project Manager.
At times I also dealt with complaints and communicated effectively with the client to see if I could
assist or escalate issues for resolution to the Manager. Most complaints involved spare parts and
the ordering process behind it. I discussed with the Manager on a weekly basis areas of
improvement and what step in the process needed to be modified in order to achieve mutually
acceptable outcomes.
4. A collaborative approach with the ability to build effective partnerships within own team
and across the organisation;
Over the span of my career I have worked in a team environment and was required to work
effectively with my team members across the organisation to achieve specified organisational
outcomes.
Working in my position of Sandwich Artist at Subway I learnt the key skills to build team and
business relationships and how to communicate with my team members to ensure customer
demands were met.
A typical day would involve competing deadlines with my main priority being the customer and
maintaining service levels. I worked in team of five people at any one time communicating with
them regularly and assisting in the smooth transition of the processes.
Although I worked within a team environment I had my own duties to complete which included
training the trainees. I communicated with them on a regular basis and provided instruction on
the processes in a concise manner. I found this interaction rewarding as I was passing my
knowledge onto someone else and it established a great foundation with building effective
relationships.
5. Ability to plan and schedule priorities, manage strict deadlines, work autonomously and
adapt to changing situations;
I have developed over the course of my career the skills to enable me to manage my time
effectively with conflicting priorities. My experience working within a customer-focused role in
food preparation resulted in a demanding work environment at times. The main focus was the
customer although there was also food that needed to be prepared and served, cleaning duties
and cash handling, as well as ensuring that the appropriate work health and safety procedures
were adhered to.
When I was engaged in my role at Domino’s Pizza I was required to manage my time effectively to
ensure that customer focus was maintained. I would have tasks that needed attending to, such as
deliveries, cash handling, customer orders, and cooking pizzas, all requiring completion at the
same time. There was never one day the same, thus requiring me to adapt to different tasks
quickly and to address changing situations effectively.
By managing my time effectively, I would firstly ensure that customers were spoken to and their
orders taken, then by keeping organised I ensured that I was familiar with the processes and
aimed to provide open and consistent communication.
6. Problem solving and analytical skills covering complex operational problems in the
context of ambiguity and change;
My sound technical aptitude was developed over the course of my studies and driven by my
passion for engineering. Whilst working within the position of Automobile Engineer I had a
requirement to problem solve and use my analytical skills to resolve complex issues that dealt
specifically with change.
At times, I would alert and advise management on periodic maintenance, reduction of breakdown
and operation expenses and troubleshooting. The workshops that formed my work environment
were busy and at times required me to troubleshoot on complex issues that involved engineering
of mechanical faults in automobiles. The issues identified were forever changing and attention to
detail was a must when scheduling work to ensure resolution in a timely manner.
I performed analysis on the faults identified and documented my findings into a report for
management to review and implement actions for resolution.
7. Desire and ability to develop knowledge of other disciplines, business functions and the
commercial environment in which Hydro Tasmania operates;
As articulated in my resume I have a desire and very strong interest in engineering. Although my
experience reflects the field of Automobile Engineering I hold a passion for development of further
technical knowledge as a Graduate.
My ability to develop this knowledge is based on my passion and complemented with my interest
in expanding my technical skill set in a commercial environment similar to the one I worked in as
an Automobile Engineer.
My desire is to create a boarder knowledge base by working in an engineering environment with a
project management focus across multiple functions and sectors of engineering. I believe that my
current and past work experience will assist me to excel within this position and contribute
positively to your organisation.
