Currently working for the Department of Planning, Transport and Infrastructure () as a Senior Accounting Officer, I am mindful of the Cultural Inclusion Framework that endorses the fundamental principles of respect for human rights, good faith and partnerships between South Australia and Indigenous Australians. Facilitating a culture of integrity, professional accountability and diversity across the department, in line with the South Australian Government’s Code of Ethics and the Equal Employment Opportunity Act 1987, I provide accurate information for my customers and colleagues, using various research tools to ensure that I supply the correct information and maintain my professional accountability, whilst consistently demonstrating honesty. Professing my enthusiasm, enjoyment and dedication for my job, I accept extra tasks and share ideas to improve strategies for their completion. Currently, DPTI is undergoing a rejuvenation phase and we have been actively involved in developing new values within the department. Supporting the Premier’s Safety and Wellbeing Declaration and the requirements of the Work Health and Safety Act 2012, I suggest improvements in safety performance throughout team meetings and advice my team on the appropriate course of action required when safety issues arise, which in turn reduces injuries-lost time and supports a high performing department. Our department has provided effective leadership in its safety performance and has positively contributed to the South Australian Strategic Plan Priority.
Having five years of experience working for the South Australian Government in financial management, accounting and budgeting, I have used a variety of computer programs to assist in the structures and evaluation techniques that impact the role of the Agency. These programs include E-Purchase, Basware, MAJOURS, Activity Based Management and Information System (ABMIS), as well as Business Objects where I have ran reports and obtained the relevant data for journal transfers. Adhering to Government policies such as internal controls, tax compliance, Goods and Services Tax (GST), Family Benefit Tax (FBT) procurement policies, use of credit cards (Promaster), raising purchase orders (Basware) and compliant tax invoices, demonstrates my sound knowledge of the policies, as well as my ability to carry out my work in a legal and ethical manner.
My high-level skills in processing large volumes of quality and accurate work is demonstrated through the recommendations that I provide regarding timesheet reports. This is carried out by examining report information and correspondence, meeting statutory and legislative reporting deadlines and generating weekly and month-end reports. My well-developed communication skills, include the ability to liaise effectively at all levels, listen to my colleagues, as well as servicing providers and customers, whilst utilising my sound knowledge of related government programs, policies and legislation. Negotiating and communicating accurately and in a timely manner, ensures that all concerns are addressed, conflicts are resolved and solutions to problems are formulated.
In my current role with a complex organisation such as DPTI as an AS04, I provide quality finance, budgeting and decision support services. This has been demonstrated by conducting monthly finance meetings to analyse financial figures with section heads, unit heads and business accountants. Additionally, I regularly provide year to date (YTD) costs to our business accountant. Participating in continuous improvement initiatives and other finance related projects is presented when I monitor the budget to improve project expenditure. Implementing labour rates at the beginning of financial year and completing end of financial year templates and under or over recovery processes demonstrates my resourcefulness in support of, and working as part of the Business team. Understanding key business operations, issues and providing flexible finance services are achieved with monthly analysis and reporting of burden recovery, YTD expenditures, and summary of all areas of Field Service Section (FSS) by deposits and coordinating a range of complex functions in the ABMIS system. Furthermore, I supervise my team and provide ABMIS training to new employees whilst also conducting performance reviews for my staff.
