1. Job Specific
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of information management principles and concepts.
Detailed knowledge of the software development lifecycle and business systems implementation
across multiple software and hardware platforms in a complex business environment.
Demonstrated experience in system administration and support of an EDRMS.
Throughout the eleven years that I have worked in the Information Technology and Engineering
Management industry I have demonstrated my knowledge and understanding of information management
principles and concepts. I have the knowledge and skills required to analyse problems, design solutions and
assess their effectiveness as well as the ability to critically review, analyse, consolidate and synthetise
information in order to respond to information management issues. I highly regard the fact that
information is knowledge and meticulously document all information and dealings that I have with various
stakeholders, including vendors, Change Management Teams, Technical Solution Architects and Project
Managers/Owners. The business processes and practices that I undertake with these stakeholders when
working on projects strengthen the creation and use of information. My successful information
management is underpinned by strong leadership that defines a clear direction for activities that are
planned to address in parallel the many needs and issues that could be faced throughout the duration of a
project. I ensure that I identify and mitigate risks throughout the project to ensure that organisational
complexities do not prevent the delivery of effective solutions. When facilitating a project release I
recognise and manage the complexity of information required to deliver tangible and visible results.
I have detailed knowledge of the software development lifecycle and business systems implementation
across multiple software and hardware platforms in a complex business environment. This has included –
The development of an integrated software system that encompasses all aspects for the ERP and
CMMS programs (SAP / Share Point) for Eliana Construction & Developing Group
The design and development of an intranet system for Safety Link in order to facilitate an efficient
Document Control System
Developed EDRMS software using a Project Integrated Management System (PIMS) for Statoil
SPGAS
When undertaking projects such as these I follow the Software Lifecycle Model which describes phases of
the software cycle and the order in which those phases are executed. It is important that each phase clearly
produces deliverables required by the next phase in the life cycle. Requirements are then translated into
design, and code is produced according to the design in the development phase. After coding and
development, the testing that I undertake verifies the deliverable of the implementation phase against
requirements.
My experience in system administration and support of an EDRMS can be clearly demonstrated throughout
the PIMS project that I worked on for Statoil SPGAS where I spent 1.5 years collaborating with a
multidisciplinary team to ensure the efficiency of the platform. Once the project was released I spent
considerable time liaising with the client to redesign certain aspects to meet company objectives. As
Coordinator and Lead Quality Controller I was responsible for –
Analysing, recommending, designing, implementing and managing configuration changes to the
PIMS software. This included undertaking Software Development Kit (SDK) processes and activities
Developing, configuring, administering and maintaining the PIMS software and related applications
Planning for system upgrades and implementation of new versions of PIMS software
Technical and records management support to users of PIMS
Collecting, analysing and collating PIMS usage statistics
Providing support to the PIMS Service Desk
2. Communication and Interpersonal
Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including ability to provide
appropriate advice with a focus on providing high quality customer service.
Highly developed written communication skills, including extensive experience in formulating
and/or structuring reports and documentation for technical and business clients.
Demonstrated ability to formulate and present training programs.
Demonstrated ability to respond and behave calmly in stressful and frustrating situations.
Possessing highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills, I have the ability to develop a
strong rapport with internal and external stakeholders, including providing appropriate advice with a focus
on high quality customer service. My experience with liaising with a diverse range of customers has been so
effective that I was the recipient of a “Delighting the Client Award” when working for IBM in 2008 as a
Software Release Manager. In this role I utilised my formal qualifications, skills and experience in order to
provide advice to clients on appropriate architecture as well as the most efficient and effective methods for
the release of projects. When faced with objection from the Change Management team, I would utilise my
expert negotiation skills in order to justify my reasoning for advice that I had provided. While working for
Safety Link as the IT&C Systems Coordinator I provided the Customer Service Department with appropriate
technical advice in relation to the troubleshooting of dongles. In order to ensure my advice could be utilised
for future enquiries, I developed and created a User Manual which included scripts, guidelines, policies and
basic troubleshooting instructions. This proved to be successful, with most Customer Service Operators
being able to use the manual to resolve issues without further assistance. In my current role as IT Manager
with Eliana Construction and Developing Group, I utilise my highly developed communication skills in order
to provide appropriate purchasing advice. I recently conducted a feasibility study on the most appropriate
financial software for the company to use. Based on my findings and evidence I recommended that SAP
would be the most appropriate platform due to its highly integrated system. The company Director
purchased the software as per my advice and is happy with the clear and succinct information that he is
able to produce from using SAP for financial transactions.
My written communication skills are highly developed and utilised on a daily basis, including in formulating
and structuring reports as well as documentation for technical and business clients. The use of data is an
extremely important factor of my work so I ensure that I record and document all dealings that I have
through all stages of projects. This ensures a clear path of information as well as accurate records. I have
extensive experience with report writing for software development processes and business intelligence
purposes. When communicating with internal and external stakeholders I always send a written request or
response and will follow up with a telephone call to ensure clarification of the subject at hand.
Throughout my career there have been many occasions where I have formulated and presented training
programs. This has included training staff at Safety Link subsequent to the development and
implementation of a database to store key electrician details. My training involved a PowerPoint
presentation, one-on-one training, a dedicated testing environment as well as training manuals which could
be used as future resources. My facilitation of training at Safety Link also extended to training Customer
Service staff in the use of a digital telephone system after the phase-out of an older analogue system. I
found that a lot of staff were fearful to use the new equipment and did not understand how it operated, so
I conducted group and one-on-one training to ensure that everyone was up-to-date with the new system
and confident with using it.
The work involved as an IT/Engineering Manager can often be stressful and frustrating, with pressure to
meet deadlines, conflicting tasks, managing teams to ensure they complete required work, as well as
potential software development issues. I am the type of person who is confident that there will always be a
solution to every problem and I like to motivate my colleagues to think the same. I respond to stressful and
frustrating situations in a calm and professional manner while working to identify what the root cause of
the situation is. I document all findings in order to learn from mistakes and prevent future occurrences
while maintaining open lines of communication with all stakeholders involved.
3. Conceptual, Analytical and Problem Solving
Highly developed analytical, conceptual and research skills, including the ability to devise creative
and effective solutions to complex problems in a large and complex business environment.
Highly developed problem solving skills and the ability to consider different parts of an issue and
work through them in a systematic way while considering the pros and cons, implications and
consequences.
Demonstrated ability to make sound recommendations based on the analysis of the situation and
be able to alter the approach within standard procedures to enable timely decisions to be made.
As an IT/Engineering Manager my analytical, conceptual and research skills have been utilised and
developed on a daily basis, including my ability to devise creative and effective solutions to complex
problems in a large and complex business environment. While employed with Sanofi Aventis Co. as an IS
Expert, I worked to improve information systems in regards to the mainframe access. The main office was
in Paris and was having issues with the ability to effectively share data with other company offices. I
determined operational objectives by studying the business functions, gathering information as well as
evaluating output requirements and formats. My research identified that one of the other offices were not
configured to receive mainframe access due to their technology being at a lower standard. In order to
overcome this I researched specifications, potential technology vendors and the costs involved to upgrade
the other office technology. Taking into consideration my previous research and studies, I came to the
conclusion that the solution was to implement Citrix which ensured effective and efficient mainframe
access between sites and could be implemented within budget.
I have extensive experience utilising problem solving skills and I have the ability to consider different
aspects of an issue and work through them in a systematic way while considering the pros and cons,
implications and consequences. My competence allows me to understand a situation by breaking it apart
into smaller pieces, or tracing the implications step-by-step and working towards effective solutions. This
was demonstrated in my role as Software Release Manager with IBM where I managed the Group Policy
changes and SML Migration via Active Directory and SCCM. Whenever a change was to be created I would
produce a “ticket” which would explain what changes were being made, why they were being made, how
they were being made as well as the implications of the changes. These “ticket” documents were very long
and in one instance some of the wording was hidden which resulted in issues when the document was
referred to and changes were applied. I held meetings with the Problem Management Team to determine
what was causing the issue, which had to be resolved promptly as its run-on effect was causing downtime
and costing the client money. After systematically working through the coding and consideration as to what
was causing the issue, I discovered that the package as a whole was not built as effectively as it could have
been which was not picked up due to lack of testing in the initial phases. I orchestrated a new design and
made a request for change which resolved the issue. This whole process was clearly documented, including
the issue, what caused the issue and how we solved the issue. This ensured that the team could learn from
previous mistakes and had a documented guide for future reference.
My ability to make sound recommendations based on the analysis of the situation and alter the approach
within standard procedures to enable timely decisions to be made is has been imperative throughout my
career, particular when considering the Software Development Lifecycle. If an issue occurs, I am required to
analyse it as quickly as possible as it could affect the whole software package. In my role as Software
Release Manager with IBM, I worked on a local exchange system for an organisation that had additional
offices in another two buildings and wanted to achieve compatibility. After analysing the situation and
using my knowledge of the new Office 365 Cloud system I made recommendations to consider this new
application and explained the benefits. The client was unsure as they were not familiar with this system,
however as there was a tight deadline for this project I advised that the fastest approach would be to
implement this new system. I provide a written proposal which the client agreed to. I managed a team of
five who installed the Office 365 Cloud system, refigured all settings and provided training to staff within
the tight timeframe. This project was a great success and the client was extremely happy with the results.
4. Organisation
Demonstrated ability to plan and coordinate activities, work independently and cooperatively with
others within a team environment.
Demonstrated well developed project management skills, including project planning, coordination,
implementation and evaluation.
Having facilitated and managed major IT projects throughout my career, my ability to plan and coordinate
activities, work independently and cooperatively with others in a team environment is highly developed. I
have extensive experience with developing clear project plans and timelines, regularly communicating with
stakeholders, including project team members and monitoring project progress to ensure it is within
budget, timeframe and required standards. I have worked within teams for many years and understand the
importance of great teamwork. As a team member, I am mindful of my role and the roles of others to
ensure successful outcomes. I have been part of teams that take a problem-solving approach to tasks and
have helped formulate action plans. In such situations, I enjoy the ability to work together to brainstorm
ideas. I work closely with other team members to foster open communication by regularly discussing any
issues we may have. I am also involved in coaching other members where needed as I believe that the
strength of a team is the diversity of knowledge, skills and abilities that different individuals share. I have
proven experience with change management processes and actively seek to gain acceptance from team
members for the improvement of operations. In some cases, such as the transition from hosted exchange
to Office 365 in my role with Viatek, change has had a dramatic effect in regards to specific deadlines for
clients across the organisation. In these instances it is imperative that my team have the necessary tools,
training and support that will assist them to adopt the change with minimal disruption to the client and set
deadlines.
My initial exposure to Project Management experience commenced in 2005 when I was certified in Norway
Statoil as a Safran Project Planner. I was then certified as PIMS administrator in the area of Project
Management and Best Practice Coordinator in Electronic Document Control systems. Throughout my
career I have learnt that the planning phase requires intense involvement from all parties and have
extensive experience with working collaboratively with Strategic Planners. I am an able planner who views
and analyses situations from a logical and systematic perspective and have professional experience with
planning, estimating and scheduling within the Information Technology field. I have extended my planning
and project management experience and knowledge through my role as Release Manager with IBM where I
was responsible for the software distribution for Westpac servers and workstation back-ends across
Australia and New Zealand.
In my current role as IT Manager with Eliana Construction and Developing Group I am currently in the
process of implementing SharePoint and hosting Office 365 for the company. The coordination of this has
required the use of my extensive project management skills as well as my ability to effectively manage and
coordinate others. This has included extensive meetings with company management and project staff in
order to plan and execute the project to ensure all business needs are being covered and implemented in a
user-friendly manner. My project management skills have, so far been vital to ensure that I am taking the
required actions based on my initial plans, as well as monitoring each task activity in all stages of project
and making sure I am driving the project within the budget that I have been allocated. As Project Manager
of this project, I am responsible for setting up and configuring the SAP sub system Maringo which includes
details about the project management as well as finance, purchasing and human resources. In the planning
stages of this project, I liaised with a SharePoint consultant in order to justify feasibility of a new server,
licence purchases as well as costs that would be involved with developing and implementing the project. I
independently drew up a project proposal and met with management to gain approval. After receiving
consent to commence this project, I put tougher a team to work with me in order to develop an effective
planning process for the configuration and implementation of the system. The project so far has been a
great success and all variables are progressing according to set deadlines. Upon completion of this project I
have processes in place for troubleshooting, monitoring as well as the delivery of training to staff on how to
maximise the use of the software.
