Demonstrated ability to facilitate and deliver a range of training and development activities for nurses within the clinical area, using adult learning principles.
- In my current role as Registered Nurse with Royal Darwin Hospital, I have demonstrated my ability to facilitate and deliver training and development activities for nurses, particularly within the clinical areas of medication management and nutrition. It is my responsibility to ensure student nurses, as well as new staff on the ward, are given the relevant information, and trained thoroughly in how to take accurate readings, electronic medication management – including the use of Electronic Medication Management Assistant (EMMA), documentation, safety, and how to appropriately access nutrition resources within the hospital. When delivering training, I apply adult learning principles in order to encourage my trainees to identify specific learning needs and pursue opportunities to achieve learning objectives. I encourage all new staff and students to ‘shadow’ me for at least one of their shifts, so that they gain first-hand knowledge and insight into the correct procedures.
- In my current and previous roles, I have experience with delivering in-service education for my colleagues. This has involved informal discussion, question and answer time, and the distribution of handouts for future reference.

- I have over 13 years of experience working as a Registered Nurse, including over 7 years with St Mary’s Hospital in Dublin, where I provided high levels of care to aged patients with Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Cognitive Impairment and various acute medical conditions.
- I am a highly accomplished Registered Nurse and I hold a Bachelor of Nursing degree. I have maintained up‑to-date, relevant knowledge, by attending in-house services and participating in regular online training.

- Throughout my roles as Registered Nurse, I have demonstrated the ability to identify potential issues, and initiate and support innovation, by utilising effective negotiation and problem solving skills, presenting ideas to management, in order to establish new processes and structures that result in patient-centred outcomes, and a positive work environment. Demonstrating these actions in my position at St Marys Hospital, where I contributed to the implementation of new policies and procedures in regards to infectious patients being isolated. Prior to my input, patients were not correctly categorised according to risk, and resulting from my knowledge and expertise there was implementation of correct processes, ensuring the health and safety of all staff and patients.
- I have often acted as team leader on shifts, as well as filling in for managers when they have been on leave or absent due to illness. My responsibilities have involved full management of the ward, including maintaining inventory, allocating staff, and overseeing the care of all patients. I have further develop my skills and knowledge in this area by participating in formal team leader training.

- I have often utilised my problem solving skills when disputes amongst staff occur. Throughout my career, I have witnessed issues between other nurses where they have fought, and raised their voices in front of patients. Acting professionally and responsibly, I intervene while acting as mediator, and listening to each individual in order to assist with resolving the issue. I take the time to remind other staff of their duty of care and responsibility to uphold the professional image of the hospital.
- Having an understanding of the need to view every patient situation, as a diverse and individual, I have been able to identify unique medical situations through evidenced based nursing and continual inquiry with the clinical environment, resulting in the provision of correct and timely medical attention.
- I have a proven ability to use risk management strategies in order to solve clinical issues, and to meet emergent needs and report or escalate issues that may require further intervention, thus upholding my reputation of providing quality patient care.

- My extensive work history in the medical field, has taught me that to provide quality care to patients, I must utilise effective listening techniques, be aware of their body language, be empathetic, respond appropriately to their requests, build rapport and ensure that they understand instructions. My ability to do this has resulted in positive nurse-patient relationships.
- Knowing the importance of communicating identified potential hazards before they lead to patient harm, I have always ensure that all patient incidents are reported, and have ensured all clinical documentation and reports are up-to-date and accurate.
- Throughout my career as a Registered Nurse, I have been stringent with meeting with other staff to discuss handovers and any safety issues on shift, ensuring all staff are abreast of updated plans and risk management procedures.

- In all of my placements as Registered Nurse, I have focused strongly on team-based healthcare by working collaboratively and respectfully with at least one other Registered Nurse, as well as other health providers in order to accomplish shared goals and to achieve coordinated, high-quality patient care. By planning, organising and sharing ideas within a nursing team for each shift, I can ensure continuality of care for patients.
Ability to use clinical information and other technology systems relevant to work area.
- My computer literacy skills, and capacity to use health related information technology systems are highly developed. I pride myself on my comprehension of various health related information systems, and I am confident in handling all of the programs available on the ward, and can easily learn new programs. I have knowledge and experience in using hospital intranet systems, Prompt, MIMMS and EMMA.
Knowledge and skills in acute nursing or a willingness to learn and develop in these speciality areas, including developing skills in caring for the older person, in maintain their activities of daily living.
- In my role with St Mary’s Hospital, I gained over seven years of experience in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of nursing care for aged patients. As well as my general nursing practice, I assisted patients with daily living, appropriate external referrals, and their nutritional needs.
- My current placement with Royal Darwin Hospital in the Acute Medical and Infectious Ward has provided me with relevant and up-to-date knowledge and skills in acute nursing, and I am willing to learn and further develop my knowledge and skills in these areas.
