Organisation: Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service
Job Title: Registered Nurse
Location: Queensland
With thirty years of nursing experience, I am confident in my ability to demonstrate skills and expertise that will enable success in the Division of Surgery and Peri-Operative Care for the Children’s Health Queensland Hospital and Health Service. My qualifications align with the eligibility requirements for this role, including certifications in General Nursing, Family Planning, Midwifery and Paediatric Critical Care. Throughout my career I have consistently developed my key attributes, which include:
- Strong clinical skills in paediatric nursing practice; encompassing operating rooms, anaesthetic nursing and peri-operative care
- Commitment to continuous improvement, best practice principles and quality patient services
- Delivery of nursing care in alignment with patient, departmental and organisational goals
- High level skills in training and preceptorship; promoting a culture of learning and research
- Support and promotion of professional standards and adherence to legislation and policies
- Communication and interpersonal skills that demonstrate empathy and compassion
- Commitment to occupational health and safety and diversity in the workplace
- Excellent assessment, planning, organisational and problem solving skills
- Strong focus on patient advocacy and family-centred care
My career history demonstrates high level clinical skills and a diverse range of experience, including 12 years working in paediatric intensive care at the Royal Children’s Hospital. A great deal of this role was cardiac-related, and supplements my experience working in cardiac post-operative surgery in the Intensive Care Unit at the Prince Charles Hospital. I understand that cardiac surgery will be a component of the RN’s role with the Division of Surgery and Peri-Operative Care, and I can confidently deliver high quality care in this area, and share my knowledge with others. My experience in paediatric intensive care gave me an excellent foundation in dealing with high acuity patients, and my skills were recognised by management when I was given the role of education, training and preceptorship for incoming staff. Additionally, I have experience in medical/surgical care, neonatal, mental health and obstetrics/midwifery.
I present as a highly versatile, adaptable and professional RN who genuinely enjoys working with children and enjoys the challenges of complex cases. My skills, experience and drive will fulfill the accountabilities of the position, in alignment with Queensland Health’s core values, mission and vision. I am excited at the prospect of being part of the new Lady Cilento Children’s Hospital, providing the highest level of care to Queensland children. With the ability to adapt quickly to change, I can contribute positively to the integration of staff and services, and uphold the vision of delivering family-oriented care to children, young people and their families.
