Proven capacity to teach all grades K – 6
Having completed my Bachelor of Education (Primary), I am qualified to teach Kindergarten through to Year 6. Demonstrating my excellent classroom practice over 3 years teaching K-6 both on a casual and temporary basis, I have developed individual learning plans to enable students with various learning styles and special needs. Experienced as a full time classroom teacher within diverse school environments, as demonstrated in my current teaching position at Belmont Public School boasting a diverse environment for students, I have employed proactive in behaviour management and always try to have meaningful and interesting lessons to keep children engaged. Also use positive behaviour strategies and choice behaviour theories both classroom and extra-curricular actives with students that increase positive behaviour, self-esteem, motivation, as well as gratitude.
As well as completing programs in all KLA’s and designed assessments I also implement teaching and learning strategies, such as Kagan structures, to cater for students with learning, social, emotional and cognitive needs in both a whole class and withdrawn setting. For example, in one term block (year 2) I had a child start the term at our school. I observed that he was reading at a kindergarten level so I differentiated my lessons whilst also discussing his reading abilities with the school reading recovery teacher. As a result of this it was decided he would undergo reading recovery which assisted in improving his reading to a more appropriate level.
Willingness to lead Science & Technology programs K – 6
Possessing a high degree of educational, information technology insight I value the way electronic devices can be used to engage and educate students, improving learning and results. The arrival and rapid dissemination of digital technologies has changed the face of education, and as the classroom is now a technologically rich environment I am prepared to employ these tools to enhance learning.
Having been on my current block as the library/science and computer teacher for most of term three, I have taught all year levels, and completed the assessments in which the students successfully met learning outcomes. I taught Plants in Action, Water Works and Desert Survivors. I made these lessons fun and had children engaged in experiments to capture their interest and develop their learning on the subject.
I have been proactive in learning library skills and teaching library to the students. I also took it upon myself to spend a few hours at another schools library to get some training on the OASIS library system. The children are starting to borrow library books again, as I have made library more fun and showcasing books that interest them to take home. This is demonstrated by my confidence in technology, using smart board on regular basis and had my own class blog on a term block as well as organising and implemented successful whole school maths days, coming up with a range of popular maths activities for whole school rotations and differentiating lessons using rotational groups and teaching each group according to their abilities.
In the position of Teacher at Belmont Public School, I will continue to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be a successful technology teacher, exhibiting my passion and enthusiasm for learning across Key Learning Areas with all K-6 students and commit to continued professional learning to provide high-level educational standards.
Ability to collaboratively plan and implement high quality differentiated teaching and learning programs in Literacy & Numeracy
As a qualified classroom teacher, I have shown a commitment to incorporating targeted strategies to teach literacy and numeracy to various stages of learning development. My commitment to literacy and numeracy has been demonstrated through my successful application of the Quality Teaching Framework, enabling students to develop and gain confidence in their skills and abilities as well as understand the importance of these key areas within all cultures and environments. Furthermore, I have learnt how teachers should conduct reflection on mathematical concepts that are taught, including using strategies such a questioning, verbal and photographic responses.
Developing personal learning plans for students who I recognise as being in danger of not meeting stage outcomes. For example where a student is struggling with development of writing skills, I may provide one-on-one assistance and utilise scaffolding techniques in the student’s zone of proximal development to allow them to build on their current level of ability towards the specific goals set in their individual learning plan.
Through careful observation and assessment, I am able to understand and cater to the level of ability and preferred style of learning of each student in my classroom, ensuring that the teaching and learning activities that I provide cater to each individual’s needs.
Highly developed interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with others
My extensive experience has heightened my awareness of the need to develop and nurture quality relationships with all members of the school community to best meet the needs of all students. Possessing and exhibiting sensitivity and understanding of the dynamics of a school community I effectively ensure that processes of collaboration and consultation are embedded. Through the provision of highly visible, collaboration I have demonstrated my capacity to build upon positive partnerships across the school community which has resulted in high-levels of student learning outcomes.
In my current role at Belmont Public School I have consistently demonstrated my highly developed interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with staff, students and the community. This has been evidenced by my:
- Running the book week parade, sending notes home, liaising with teachers notifying them of the itinerary for the day, speaking publicly at the book week parade, organising when children where to read their book reviews and running book fair in library
- Collaboratively working with stage teachers to organise and implement a Sydney day zoo excursion, then travelled to Sydney Zoo with Stage 1 students
- Managing and ran a maths day for the whole school organising hands on outdoor differentiated maths activities
- Organising Father’s Day breakfast at (Kahibah PS)
I also work with another teacher in a job share capacity, where communication is of the utmost importance as to the day to day workings in the classroom collaborating with programming and planning. We meet up a few times during the term and talk at least once a week and assist to ensure consistency in our teaching of K-6.
