customer needs, creating a customer-centric culture, and inspiring and empowering my teams to
deliver the business vision. The initiatives encompassed service delivery of frontline staff in
operational environments and embracing technology to improve outcomes.
During the Martin Place siege, in Sydney, I was instrumental in organising a fleet of buses.
Performing under an intense and highly unstable environment, I was the coordinator in critical
response management to the management of Sydney buses within the proximity of the incident. It
was during this operation specifically, that I proved my ability to exceed expectations in incident
management. Utilising a range of key resources during this 12-hour operation, I was placed at the
Police Traffic Commander centre to affect numerous bus redirections according to red zones
within the CBD. Drawing on my sound understanding of all key elements and resources in
successfully delivering on operational expectations, I worked closely with internal stakeholders
such as depot duty managers and emergency personnel. The outcome of my ability to work in
collaboration with resources both internally and externally was that I achieved the results of public

involved. Possessing an ability to achieve results in a protocol and results-driven environment, I
demonstrate my strong desire to excel in all business areas, whilst striving for excellence.
Demonstrating my ability to determine the most appropriate responses to fleet traffic incidents, I
show this on a continuous basis, most recently when a private bus charter broke down in the
middle of a major intersection in the CBD of Sydney. Due to the location of the broken-down bus, I
identified that the impact of this incident would cause an entire city block to be closed down until
a safe resolution was enacted. Without hesitation, I was proactive in the traffic management of
the incident, attending the site to begin assessment and resolution practices. Commencing with
the safe and strategic placement of witches hats to block off the impacted lane, I was instrumental
in the achievement of funnelling traffic diversion around the bus incident. Coordinating with the
bus driver, I performed the implementation of a contraflow and put into place an emergency
incident plan. Assisting the passengers safely off the broken-down private bus charter, I also
coached the bus driver on relevant resources to call in order to remove the bus that was
obstructing the traffic. As an Authorised Officer of the State Transit Authority, I was successful in
the resolution of this complex traffic incident, until the arrival of Traffic Commanders, of which I
received commendation for my ability to act in accordance with appropriate responses and safety
solutions.

of planned incidents. Committed to continuous improvement, I promote the adoption of best
practice procedures through developing and conducting training courses in traffic operation
matters and developing and evaluating traffic management proposals to improve the operating
efficiency for all internal staff. By reviewing the collective response of those present at the
incident scene, I utilise this information to contribute in the improvement of the incident
management and incident planning process by participating in a review of major incidents. The

methodology, is that I have position myself to be an exceptional contributor to the success of
major incidents both planned and unplanned over my career with the State Transit Authority.

prioritise elevated levels of information and convert ideas into actions. Possessing the aptitude to
prioritise problems and gather the correct information to analyse has resulted in the recognition
of identifying symptoms and causes to reach best conclusions for all parties involved.
With sound understanding of Transport for NSW as the centrepiece of a reshaped transport
cluster, I am committed to the adoption and promotions of its responsibility for setting the
strategic direction and guiding an extended network of public and private service delivery agencies
to deliver improved transport outcomes. Possessing in-depth knowledge of up-to-date policy,
particularly in relation to transport in critical outcome situations, I have demonstrated sharp
business awareness and experience. It is essential that as part of my business behaviour, I
maintain confidentiality and be professional when solving difficult problems.
Demonstration of my commitment to undertaking routine problem solving and troubleshooting
activities on a regular basis, is consistently shown during my tenure with the State Transit
Authority. Possessing a keen eye for detail, I understand how processes work, how to quickly and
efficiently resolve problems through process analysis and systematic thinking. Endeavouring to
find and implement a resolution that is beneficial to both the organisation and stakeholders
involved, I have proven my ability to deliver logical and calm decisions in high-pressured
environments.
Furthermore, within my position as Network Supervisor, I am regularly exposed to aggressive
customers, people with disabilities and varying cultural backgrounds, especially when attending
incident sites due to bus breakdowns or faults. I approach these customers with concern and
empathy and always attempt to provide concise and easy-to-understand information, in line with
policy decisions and rulings. This skill was acknowledged by management and was central to my
success within this role. Supporting customer service delivery in my role at the State Transit
Authority, I am often called upon to provide timely and accurate services to differing stakeholders.
In order to achieve success, I consistently provide customers with my strong internal knowledge of
operational codes of conduct in all interactions. My ability to listen, understand and adapt to an
audience, is validated by my extensive and successful work history in customer-focused positions.
Passionate to make a career transition to the Transport for NSW, I am actively pursuing the
position of Traffic Commander offering my 100% flexibility, dedication and commitment to the
business objectives and seeking out opportunities for professional development. Furthermore,
within this role, I will act professionally at all times, consistently operating within the boundaries
of organisational processes and legal and policy constraints, whilst making decisions for the
corporate good without favouritism or bias, placing the aims of the organisation above personal
ambitions.
Knowledge of the road network and geography
With an esteemed career with the State Transit Authority, I am confident in my knowledge of
Sydney transport diversities and objectives. Through my current position, I have proven my sound
understanding and ability to administer sound judgment based on qualified knowledge of road
networks. It is with enthusiasm that I apply for the Traffic Commander position with Transport for
NSW and the opportunity to be influential in the monitoring and management of the NSW road
network 24 hours a day. I am committed to ensuring that the 18,000km state road network
operates with maximum efficiency, including during peak-commuter travel times, special events
and following unplanned incidents such as vehicle accidents.
As a proactive member of the transport industry, I have often provided resolution for sensitive and
difficult situations. Through drawing on my ability to think quickly and make prompt decisions
when necessary, I have been instrumental in avoiding major disruption to bus services in and
around Sydney. In order to achieve this, it is an essential requirement that I not only have
knowledge but can implement diversions and incident emergency plans based on my in-depth
knowledge of the road network and geographic spread of services delivered.
Committed to the use of advanced monitoring, communication and traffic flow systems, I aim to
make journey times more consistent, as well as provide efficient connections of transport modes
and responses to traffic incidents as fast as possible. It is essential in my career success that I
utilise quality communication methods with the delivery of accurate and up-to-date information
to help road users choose the best routes and modes of travel. Although my position is focused on
bus fleet management, I have a solid understanding of the Traffic Management Control provision
of whole-of-transport coordination service. This ensures the seamless delivery of frontline
commuter transport operations in Sydney across all modes such as roads, rail, bus and ferry, with
a focus on the CBD.
Best showcased within my current position, I identified that the 442 afternoon service from the
Queen Victoria Building in York Street, in the heart of Sydney, to Balmain, was not providing
sufficient services to Balmain Wharf due to services terminating at Gladstone Park. By researching
the situation and reviewing driver journals, I was able to apply five additional services to fill the
gap, which not only satisfied our customers, but it exceeded their expectations. Delivering a
successful outcome to all stakeholders, I thoroughly understood the geographically diverse road
networks and service delays, that enabled me to propose, develop and implement a schedule
change recommendation.
Effective traffic management, particularly during road incidents, is a multi-agency activity. A Traffic
Commander relies heavily on communication, co-ordination and close partnerships with the
emergency services, Police, Fire and Ambulance as well as other stakeholders. Through integrated
traffic management, I am committed to the promotion of a comprehensive response to road
incidents, infrastructure planning and day-to-day traffic operations and confident in my ongoing
success within this career opportunity.
Sound knowledge of environmental and Occupational Health and Safety issues relating to
emergency/disaster management
Throughout my career, I have embraced the need to possess a thorough understanding of relevant
legislative processes. As an established member of the New South Wales community, I am
committed to staying up-to-date with the principles of the work health and safety laws in New
South Wales that consist of the Work Health and Safety Act 2011, supported by the Work
Health and Safety Regulation 2011. It was a requirement of my position, as an active student, to
completely understand and interpret the relevant Acts and legislation, to grasp the extent of the
organisations that are bound by the legislation. Commitment to acquiring enhanced professional
industry knowledge of standards and how they apply to organisations, I regularly draw on case
studies. Additionally, I subscribe to safety bodies such as SafeWork Australia and its newsletters.
During my position with the State Transit Authority, I was directly involved in the University of
Technology (UTS) Crane collapse at Broadway. Influential at the command centre that was
established with the Fire Department, Police and other emergency personnel, I made numerous
decisions in implementing the diversions required. Liaising with internal and external stakeholders,
I combined my experience and knowledge of services, routes and city roads to drive the most
effective incident diversions, with public safety as a priority. Through contact with staff
supervisors and depot duty managers from diverse locations, from the central command centre, I
coordinated and drove incident operational strategies and delivered this to those based at Railway
Square and Redfern Station in order to best educate passengers. In addition to catering to this
unforeseen event, I showed my commitment by extending my shift to ensure correct processes
were in place and open lines of communication were maintained for ongoing successful operation.
The results of the manner with which I managed the event was that I proved my ability to
converse with all stakeholders confidently and in a timely manner. I adhered to all safety
requirements in line with incident control and manifested my utter commitment to the position
and reputation of the business in this critical environment.
Demonstrating a thorough understanding of Transport for NSW, I am dedicated to building a
talented and responsive workforce that reflects the cultural diversity of the state. I will
consistently promote and drive the adherence to work health and safety. Further, I will mentor
staff in the understanding of freedom from discrimination, bullying and harassment, the value of
respect and fairness as outlined by acts such as Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) and Ethical
Values Cultural Diversity Work Health and Safety (WHS).

Safety, I have obtained the following certification; Apply Fatigue Management Strategies,

and Safety work activity training for Traffic Controller course provided through State Transit
Authority. Encompassing the learning obtained in these opportunities for knowledge growth, I
strive to adhere and mentor in every interaction the core value, principles and operational
methodology gained.
